Custom Feature Information Required
Mounting flange Outline, hole spacing, fasteners and mating panel
Air passage Inlet and outlet geometry, depth and clearance
Connection interface Slip fit, mating duct, gasket or other assembly details
Material and finish Approved resin grade, color and surface requirements
Inspection scope Critical dimensions and agreed assembly checks

Molded lettering, orientation marks and customer identification can also be considered. Provide the artwork and preferred position before tooling is finalized. Mark the surfaces that remain visible after assembly and identify any areas where molding traces would interfere with sealing or installation. This allows appearance requirements and functional priorities to be discussed at the same time, with the agreed details recorded on a controlled drawing revision.

What Information Defines the Fan and Duct Interfaces?

Provide the mating fan or panel drawing, including mounting hole locations, opening shape and the space around the air passage. Add the outlet connection geometry and any tolerances that control fit. The nominal fan size alone is not sufficient to define all mounting features. Include clearance for screws, connectors and cable routing when those items sit close to the shroud or restrict the assembly sequence.

For a slip connection, explain the required insertion depth, assembly method and permitted movement. For a gasketed interface, identify the gasket location, compressed condition and the surfaces that control the joint. Do not assume that a circular collar automatically provides a sealed connection. The finished assembly must be reviewed with its mating components, and any sealing requirement should have an agreed acceptance criterion.

How Should Airflow and Acoustic Requirements Be Addressed?

A custom molded shape establishes the physical air path, but airflow performance depends on the complete system. Fan selection, filters, restrictions and surrounding geometry all belong in the equipment review. If pressure drop, delivered airflow or temperature at a component matters, provide the required operating condition and the method used for evaluation. No performance increase is implied by the concept image or by the presence of a tapered transition.

Noise requirements also need a system-level definition. An installed shroud can interact with the fan, panel and nearby components, so a quiet result cannot be confirmed from the plastic material alone. Where acoustic behavior is important, agree on a representative assembly and test condition. Keep those requirements connected to sample approval rather than relying on an isolated visual inspection of the molded component.

What Should Be Reviewed Before Mold Manufacture?

The design review can address wall sections, transitions, corner radii, draft, gate placement and ejection. Features around the flange and collar should be considered with the proposed material and molding direction. Mark the interfaces that determine installation so the tooling discussion can focus on them. The product rendering communicates a concept, while the approved model and dimensioned drawing define what is actually manufactured.

Mounting flange flatness and the relationship between the collar and hole pattern may be important for a particular assembly. State those needs explicitly, along with the inspection datums. General dimensional requirements can be kept separate from tightly controlled functional features. This gives the sample review a clear purpose and helps avoid applying unnecessary restrictions to surfaces that do not influence assembly or use.

Parting lines, gate traces and ejection marks should be discussed where they affect appearance, fit or sealing. Provide any restrictions before tooling is approved. If a feature requires a mold action or another construction detail, the quotation should identify its effect on tooling scope. Design revisions should be reviewed before manufacturing so the mold, sample drawing and inspection plan all refer to the same geometry.

How Can Prototype and Molded Samples Be Evaluated?

A prototype can help check the available space, access and connection sequence. State the prototype method and the questions it is intended to answer. A printed or machined model does not fully represent injection molded material behavior or the final manufacturing process. Use representative molded samples for production approval when the decision depends on the selected resin, molded fit or repeatability of the proposed process.

Sample inspection should reference the approved drawing revision and resin designation. Check the mounting pattern, connection geometry and any specified functional surfaces using the agreed method. Then assemble the part with the intended panel, fan and adjacent duct. Record insertion, fastening, removal and any interference observed. This produces a more useful approval record than a photograph showing that the component generally resembles the original concept.

If environmental exposure, vibration or repeated maintenance is relevant, define an appropriate evaluation with the responsible designer. Include the assembly configuration and the criterion for acceptance. The aim is to confirm the functions that matter in service, such as retained position or connection fit. Test scope, documentation and any additional certification work should be agreed in the order rather than inferred from general product descriptions.

What Production and Packaging Details Can Be Confirmed?

For repeat production, retain the approved material, drawing revision and sample reference together. Establish how proposed changes to resin, color formulation or geometry will be reviewed. Clear identification is especially useful when several shrouds share a similar appearance but have different mounting patterns. Orders should reference the correct part number and revision so purchasing and inspection teams can distinguish the intended configuration.

Packaging can be arranged around the shape, finish and assembly workflow. Tell us whether nesting is permitted and whether the flange or collar requires protection from contact during transport. Include label requirements and preferred quantities per pack. If the components are delivered to an assembly partner, state any identification or counting needs that help that team receive and use the parts efficiently.

What Is Needed for a Custom Fan Shroud Quotation?

Send a STP, STEP or IGS model, a dimensioned drawing, the selected material or performance requirements, and your initial quantity. Include the mating panel and connection information, expected repeat demand, required color and delivery destination. Tooling cost, unit price, minimum order quantity, sample availability and lead time are confirmed after project review. If you are working toward a sample deadline, include that date so the quotation can reflect the intended schedule.

When only a physical sample or photograph is available, identify which dimensions and interfaces must be preserved. Appearance alone cannot confirm the original material or every functional tolerance. We can use the information to discuss what further definition is needed for a reviewable manufacturing proposal. A complete inquiry makes it easier to compare the proposed tooling, material and production scope on a consistent basis.

Images show custom design and application concepts. Final geometry, material and suitability follow the approved customer requirements. Fans and other equipment shown for context are not included unless specified.
